Which membership category should I join?
Membership of APIL is by individual, not by firm. All members
are required to sign and abide by APIL's code of conduct.
The association welcomes applications from any persons in the
following categories:
Legal practitioners working in the field of
personal injury law in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland,
The Republic of Ireland, The Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands
whose personal practice is predominantly for the injured and the
victims of accidents.
Non practising legal practitioners who have
practised in the field of personal injury law in England, Wales,
Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, The Isle
of Man and The Channel Islands and who are currently either on
maternity leave, career break, or retired and remain sympathetic
to the aims of the association.
Academic lawyers working in or for any institution
in any of the above jurisdictions who are interested in the field
of personal injury law. You should be sympathetic to the aims
of APIL and not hold a substantial commitment to an organisation
or association acting for or supporting persons or companies who
act on behalf of defendants in personal injury litigation.
Students who are sympathetic to the aims of
APIL.
Overseas lawyers practising in the field of
personal injury law, predominantly for the injured and the victims
of accidents and who are sympathetic to the aims of APIL. The
executive of the Association has the right to refuse membership
to any person who in the opinion of the executive does not comply
with the requirements of membership or adhere to the objectives
of APIL, and its code of conduct.
Paralegals/legal support staff APIL recognises
that there are an increasing number of paralegals/legal support
staff who are taking on permanent legal positions within PI practices
and running a full caseload or assisting with a caseload under
supervision. This new membership category allows paralegals/legal
support staff to join the association to gain the benefits of
membership (no voting rights) for an annual fee of £95.00
plus VAT. We hope you will encourage paralegals within your firm
to join APIL. Application forms are available from Sharon Smith,
Membership Officer.
You may e-mail any queries or your request for a full brochure
and application form to us at: sharon@apil.com
As a member of APIL you will need to agree to subscribe to the
