Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Bill
APIL welcomed the introduction of a Corporate Manslaughter Bill but was
concerned about a number of flaws. APIL campaigned to change the ‘senior
managers’ test and welcomed the Government’s decision to amend the bill to
‘senior management’. APIL also lobbied on the relevant duty of care, sanctions,
individual liability, and using the bill to enshrine directors’ health and
safety duties in law.
Small claims
APIL continues to publicise its streamlining document, ‘A Streamlined Claims
Process for Injured People’, in meetings with MPs. APIL is campaigning for the
interests of victims to be at the heart of the claims process and will respond
robustly to the impending Government consultation on this crucial issue.
Mesothelioma
APIL continues to work with the Government and relevant stakeholder
organisations on improving the mesothelioma claims process in order that
victims receive the compensation they deserve as swiftly as possible.
Coroner reform
APIL provided written evidence on the draft Coroner Reform Bill in September
2006 and will continue to campaign for the introduction of a bill in Parliament
to reform this outdated system as soon as possible.
